No network. No internet. Five things happen, and all five are visible from your screen.
- Network
The base station went down. You did not reach for a radio.
Your team's phones find each other over short-range radio links (Bluetooth Low Energy, Wi-Fi Direct) and weave a network between them. No tower, no line, no subscription. You hand out no extra hardware: the network runs on what your team already carries. iOS and Android work on the same network.
- Visibility
Your team is still on the map.
Field teams and mobile teams stay on the map; where a device drops, its last known location remains. Critical points, assembly areas and safe-zone layers are on that same map; you read which team is nearest to what straight off the screen.
- Task
You sent the task. It travelled device to device.
A message reaches a device out of range by travelling through the ones in between. If the way is closed, it waits on the device carrying it and moves on when a new neighbour appears. Group messages, locations, images and files travel the same way. A relaying device cannot read the message.
- Headcount
Who is safe? You read it off a list.
Safe check-ins, the live status indicator and last known location turn the field into a headcount without calling anyone one by one. SOS alarms and help requests land on the same screen; you confirm nobody by phone.
- Gateway
You did not wait for the line. The first device to connect opened the field.
When any device in the network regains an outside connection, the field opens onto the coordination centre through it. The gateway is not chosen in advance; whichever device finds a connection becomes it. The centre's screen and yours show the same incident.
What changes
You carry no second device. The network is in your team's pocket.
