How it works
Four layers. None of them belongs to the mobile network. The architecture treats being offline as the default, not the exception.
- Radio
Devices find each other with their own radios.
No line to lease, no tower to reach, no subscription required. The short-range radio links on every device (Bluetooth Low Energy, Wi-Fi Direct) reach a neighbour directly. The network runs on what your team already carries: no extra hardware, and iOS and Android work the same way.
- Network
Every device is both an endpoint and a relay.
The network has no centre: no server, no router, no operator. Devices communicate peer to peer; a message reaches a device out of range by travelling through the ones in between. If a device drops, the network does not break: neighbours are recalculated and the message continues by another route.
- Delivery
A message is not abandoned until it is delivered.
The route is not known in advance, and it does not need to be. If the way is closed, the message waits on the device carrying it and moves on when a new neighbour appears: store-and-forward. No server holds the message; the device itself does. Traffic is encrypted end to end: a relaying device cannot read what it carries.
- Gateway
The first device to regain a connection becomes the field's door.
The field does not only talk to itself. When any device in the network regains an outside connection (a phone with a single bar, a line coming back) the whole network opens onto the coordination centre through it. This gateway is not chosen in advance; whichever device finds a connection becomes it.

The chat screen looks like any messaging app; the difference sits underneath: when the network drops, the same conversation is carried device to device and waits until it is delivered. Captured from the demo environment; the conversation is an example.

What changes
No base station required. The field builds the network.
There is no centre. One device dropping does not drop the network.
Messages are not lost. They wait until they are delivered.
A relaying device cannot read the message.
The first device to regain a connection links the field to the centre.
Offline is the assumption, not the exception.
